DREAMING OF 'FIELDS' IN 2015

As two thousand and fourteen has drawn to a hasty close, thoughts of returning to work this year are weighing on my mind. I am so incredibly thankful for the time that I have had at home with my babies - although at times a monotonous and trying battle, mostly an indescribable blessing.

Since time will become even more precious and even more elusive in a few short weeks,  I'd love to hear from you...

In order for me to create content that you will enjoy the most, for me to gain an insight into new topics or ideas that you'd like to see here, and to make your overall 'Fields' experience the best that it can be, I've created a super short, completely anonymous survey for you to share your thoughts. I'd be ever so grateful for your input!

You can access the survey below or by clicking here.

Despite this little space never quite receiving the love and attention I intend or dream of, I can't wait to continue documenting and sharing small pieces of our world throughout 2015.

My hope for you is that the New Year brings with it a promise - a promise to discover and mold and nourish your own story in order for you to become the very best version of you.

"...go out and let stories happen to you... water them with your blood and your tears and your laughter til they bloom" ~ Clarissa Pinkola Estes

All my love,

Anna  x

The 'Fields of Sage' App Icon is Here!

If you're anything like me, gone are the days of leisurely perusing blog after inspiring blog during a quiet morning break {where the drinks were always hot and the food was never shared}. Now, as a time-poor mama of two littles, quick and easy access to the things I use most often, is essential. Which is why I have created a sweet little icon for my phone and iPad, which instantly takes me here, to the blog, in one fell swoop. And, if you are a regular 'Fields' reader {bless you!} and would like to add this icon to your device as well - it's SO easy! Here's how it's done...

Step One - Open 'Fields of Sage' in your phone/tablet web browser. At the bottom of your screen you will see some mini icons as in the photo above {if not just scroll your finger downwards and they should appear}. Click the 'share' icon {shown here with the arrow symbol}.

Step Two - Click on the "Add to Home Screen" icon

Step Three - Click "Add"...   that's all there is to it!!
Here's how it looks on my phone {and should look on yours too}...

So now you can read away while in line at the checkout, during a five/fifty minute breastfeeding session or as the kettle boils, without any of the fuss, because, as women, we know that  every.  second.  counts!  While you're at it, bookmark some of your other favourite reads too. {I often pop by here, here and here. Oh and here and here!}

{If you're a blogger and would like to create a pretty icon of your very own, I followed the tutorial here

The Little Artist {Volume Two}

"To play with colour is to play with magic" - Ursula Kolbe
{author of my most favourite guide to facilitating art experiences with young children, Rapunzel's Supermarket}

As predictable, weary tears begin to surface toward the end of yet another whirlwind day, crisp, white ceramics, laden with colour, are placed atop her thrifted table; her sunshine-yellow chair drawn ajar to entice. Frustrated, tired grizzles are soon forgotten as her hands and mind meld to create a dance of wonder upon the beckoning page. Hues intertwine and new shades emerge as slapdash fingers hastily explore. Fragments of colour chaotically combine, as another masterpiece from our wee artist is complete.

Sage creates with Veggie Baby Finger Paint care of the delightful Boodle and Bear. These beautiful hues are made from the milling of real blueberries, beets, pumpkin and spinach, and contain no dairy, wheat, sugar or preservatives - making them safe for even the most curious, young artist!

Sweet Marnie, a mother of two littlies, established Boodle and Bear - her family-based, online art supplies store, after she found a huge gap in the market for safe, easy-to-use, eco-friendly products, specifically designed for young children.
"It was concerning to me to find that many art supplies produced by large corporations contain toxic chemicals that can be inhaled, absorbed through the skin or accidentally ingested whilst children use them…  Buying eco-friendly art supplies is a small step in caring for our world and our children."

To celebrate the potential and capabilities of even our littlest creatives, we have an entire set of Veggie Baby Finger Paint {RRP $40}, to give away to one lucky Fields of Sage reader! To enter, simply leave a comment, either in the blog comment section below or on our facebook page {doing both will give you two entries}. The winner will be chosen via random number generator {according to comment order} and be drawn in one week – on Friday, June 21st at 8.00pm.

Good luck!

If you just cannot wait to immerse your child in a world of colour, Boodle and Bear currently has an enormous 40% off EVERYTHING in store! On my wishlist for Sage is this set of bamboo paint brushes and these divine water soluble pencils. But be quick - this amazing  40% off sale is available only while stocks last! Also, be sure to pop over and give Boodle and Bear a little 'like' on facebook to stay up-to-date with their frequent specials and incredible product range. Happy creating! x

One Year On

 When I began this little blog an entire year ago, I never for a moment considered where this path would lead. My whole and entire intention for creating this simple space was to celebrate Sage's childhood as well as the trials and triumphs of motherhood along the way. And it has been that, but also so much more. Fields of Sage has become a refuge and a sanctuary - a place where I can sit, reflect and be still. My own little sanctum of peace and isolation; an escape, a haven for my mind and my heart. And although not nearly does every sentence, or paragraph, or even completed post see the light of day, the therapy found in mulling over my thoughts and lacing them into words, is often just as rewarding as those that make it to 'published' status.

Through this pondering and the forming of often scattered thoughts into coherent, readable sentences, my inner consciousness is questioned and my beliefs and values are challenged. The outpouring of our private lives in such a public way can, at times, be both terrifying and liberating in equal measure. Allowing this insight into our world requires me to constantly examine and re-evaluate my views and my intentions; an endless quest for personal growth. Sharing our lives also leaves us vulnerable to the judgements and comparisons of others from the outside looking in... and that's okay - it's human nature after all. As long as with those judgements and comparisons there also comes a mindfulness - that you are only ever seeing a very small portion of a very big picture. Witnessing the lives of others, solely through their carefully selected words and accompanying edited images, I must remind myself of this all the time. With every presented piece of pretty, there are also elements of the not-so-pretty behind the scenes; even if they are never written about, photographed or acknowledged.

Rarely will you see the unpleasentries of our life laid bare before you on your screens, as I am hoping that Fields of Sage is a space which cultivates inspiration and beauty, even in the most simple of ways. However, rest assured, we are a family no different to yours. It goes without saying that there are moments of monotony, chaos and emotion in our world. From time to time you may see snippets of their existence, as these are the realities of not only parenting, but of daily life, however primarily I choose to document the tales that will warm our hearts in the years to come, as we scroll back through the archives.

Whilst sitting in our lounge room on the evening that Fields of Sage came to life, I never once anticipated the incredible community I would come to share this journey with. I had only read a very small handful of blogs, for a very short time, before creating my own and therefore had no awareness of the truly amazing calibre of people and their utterly inspirational ways, lying right before my very fingertips. Daily, I am moved by the words that are threaded and the images that are captured by these extraordinarily talented souls - just as I am, each and every time someone takes a moment out of their busy day to visit here. Although perplexed as to why anybody {besides besotted grandparents, perhaps!} would willingly choose to stop by, I am incredibly thankful from the absolute bottom of my heart. To those who leave words of encouragement or thoughtful advice, to those who share their own personal, life experiences, to those who delight in Sage {almost} as much as we do, and to those who simply visit here from time to time, I am truly humbled by your presence. Without you, this blog would still exist, as my initial motivation remains steadfast - to marvel at the growth and utter beauty of our child and record the magic of her childhood days - however having you share in our lives, makes the journey all that much sweeter.

{Come and enter this little 'thank you', from me to you!}

The Little Artist

As the sun began making its descent on our Easter Sunday afternoon, one wee girl proudly sat; an invitation to create placed before her. Haphazard strokes and criss-crossed swirls quickly took form, etched with sweet-smelling wax. The tiny artist, although unperturbed by her carefree designs, cradled her delicate canvas with the greatest of care. Her invisible patterns were soon revealed in all of their brilliance after a short immersion in a vibrant, naturally-hued wash. Luminous in the lowering sunlight, her creation gleams with sparkling residue; placed, as in life, by the side of her mother's.

An unveiling, a renewing... the true meaning of Easter.

Sage creates with the Nature's Magic Egg Dying Kit care of Boodle and Bear. Made from fruit and vegetable powders, these dyes are both natural and edible, perfect for the mini artiste in your world.

Over the coming months I will be featuring more eco-friendly art supplies from Boodle and Bear's delightful range. However, in the meantime, why not head over to their facebook page and give them a "like" to keep up-to-date with their latest products and fantastic specials - be quick, there's a sale on now!

The Party {Her First Birthday Celebration}

Gathered in our humble backyard, we celebrated your first year in our world; the triumphs and the tears, the laughter and love.  At no time could we have envisaged, one year ago, just how very much you would change our lives and our hearts, forevermore.  Never have we known a love like this; both for you, darling girl and for one another. Often, we sit and we watch you, mesmerised and in complete awe; our fingers interlaced, our souls even more so. As our eyes meet, no words are needed. Glistening with pride and pure adoration for everything you are and everything you have become, we still cannot fathom that our love, our bond, our unity has ensued your creation; your emergence into the world. You were meant for us, of that I am eternally certain.

Sage, you have touched my truest, deepest core. Each smile, each sigh, each movement, each breath - if only to capture each one to relive when you’re grown. I will be forever by your side, embracing you hand, whispering of my enduring love. All that is within me is for you.

I carry your heart with me {I carry it in my heart}
I am never without it {anywhere I go you go, my dear; and whatever is done by only me is your doing, my darling}
I fear no fate {for you are my fate, my sweet}
I want no world {for beautiful you are my world, my true}
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

Here is the deepest secret nobody knows
{Here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows higher than soul can hope or mind can hide}
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

I carry your heart {I carry it in my heart}

Sage's birthday images were captured by the incredibly talented Naomi Fenton of Look See by Naomi Fenton. I met gorgeous Naomi whilst attending The Nursery workshop hosted by Tim Coulson last year and her eye for exquisite beauty and design is truly impeccable. Naomi's images are currently being recognised though various state-wide exhibitions and her Pinterest board is a force to be reckoned with! Check her out - she is amazing.
